Saint-Merd-de-Lapleau

Saint- Merd -de- Lapleau is a commune of 170 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Ventadour.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central about ten kilometers east of the Barrage de la Valette and is surrounded by extensive forests. Tulle, prefecture of the department is located about 30 kilometers west and Égletons about 20 kilometers to the north.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Merd -de- Lapleau are Lafage -sur- Sombre in the north, Saint- Hilaire- Foissac in the northeast, Laval -sur- Luzège in the east, Auriac the southeast, Bassignac -le-Haut in the southwest and Marcillac- la- Croisille in the West.

History

The origin of the place was called Ecclesiam Sancti Medardi, in 1315 Sancti Medardi and later in its present form Saint- Merd -de- Lapleau. Saint Merd is an abbreviation for the Holy Medardus. Lapleau is a reference to the community Lapleau.
