Champagnac-la-Noaille

Champagnac la Noaille ( Champanhac la Noalha in Occitan ) is a commune with 231 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Ventadour. The inhabitants call themselves Champagnacois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the right bank of the Doustre and is surrounded by extensive forests. Tulle, prefecture of the department is located about 25 kilometers southwest and Égletons about 14 kilometers north and Ussel about 40 kilometers north-east.

Neighboring communities of Champagnac la Noaille are Montaignac -Saint -Hippolyte in the north, Le Jardin in the east, Lafage -sur- Sombre the southeast, Marcillac la Croisille in the south, Saint- Pardoux- la- Croisille the southwest, Clergoux in the West and Eyrein in the northwest.

History

Through archaeological discoveries, colonization has been demonstrated already in Gallo- Roman times. The name comes from Champagnac Campanius - acum, estate of Campanius while la Noaille refers to the name of the feudal lords of the area.
