Gimel-les-Cascades

Gimel -les- Cascades is a commune with 733 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), located in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The inhabitants call themselves Gimelois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central and is surrounded by vast forests, whose lifeblood is the Montane River. The Montane forms in the south and the municipal border with Chanac- les -Mines. Thus, the A89 motorway crosses the municipal territory, the exit No. 21 leads and more for Gimel -les- Cascades. In addition, some department roads run through the municipality, including the D1089 (the old Route nationale 89).

History

Inhabited the region is very early in prehistoric times, the Gallo- Roman era has left its mark here. History was mentioned Gimel with its church of St. Pardoux only in the year 936 during the Wars of Religion Gimel was invaded in 1594 by troops of the Catholic League. 1974 Gimel Gimel -les- Cascades in has been renamed.

The original coat of arms ( silver and blue stripes ) is the house of Lusignan in the département of Vienne. The house Parthenay was connected by marriage with the house of Lusignan. Likewise, the origin of the people derives Gimel in the house of Lusignan.
