The latter worked with Cavalera together already on the Soulfy album Prophecy in 2004. Furthermore undertook Cavalera traveling to different countries (Turkey, Serbia, Russia and France) to accommodate typical or elements of other cultures in the album. At Carved Inside, Frontlines and Inner Spirit Music videos were produced.

Reception

Jason Birch Meier of Allmusic certified the album consistently powerful and experimental sound with no low points and awarded in his album review 4 out of 5 possible points.

"The 15 -song album never does hit a lull. It arcs slightly, kicking off with a punch to the face and peaking with " Molotov ", "Front Lines", and "Inner Spirit " before drifting into edgier waters of experimentation did Ultimately recede with the album closer, the ten- minute instrumental " Soulfly V ". "

In his review for laut.de Michael Edele complains the function of some pieces as an album filler, but stresses the mixture of hardness and experimental sounds forth. Michael Edele awards in his album review 3 of 5 possible points for Dark Ages.

" [ ... ] " Bleak " but even this too trivial and incoherent, a typical filler. Also, the short " (The) March" is somehow superfluous [ ... ] However, it is mainly "Inner Spirit" ( with guest vocals of the singer of the Serbian band Eyes Burn ), the sit up can be confused and once again shows why Soulfly are so unpredictable. "
