David Johnson (footballer born 1951)
David Edward Johnson ( born October 23, 1951 in Liverpool ) is a former English footballer. Between 1975 and 1980, he played eight games ( six goals) for England and took part in the European Football Championship 1980. With Liverpool he has been English champions four times, and three times national champion trophy winner.
Playing career
Everton FC (1969-1971)
David Johnson started his professional career with his boyhood club Everton in 1970, have been English champions without a use of the junior player. His first league games he graduated in the Football League First Division 1970 /71. In the 1971/72 season he scored seven league games with nine goals. Everton had the good performances of the championship season can not match and could be found only in the lower mid-table again.
Ipswich Town (1972-1976)
In November 1972 Johnson moved to league rivals Ipswich Town and ended the 1972/73 season in fourth place. In the UEFA Cup in 1973/74 he failed with his team after wins over Real Madrid, Lazio and FC Twente Enschede in the quarter -finals on 1 FC Locomotive Leipzig. In 1973/74 achieved Johnson thirteen league goals and confirmed his team the league placement from the previous year. Increased performance in the First Division 1974/75 with the third place, just two points behind the champions Derby County.
Liverpool FC (1976-1982)
At the beginning of the 1976/77 season moved the 24- year-old David Johnson to reigning champions Liverpool FC. In addition to the title defense in the league, Liverpool won the European Cup of Champions 1976/77 for the first time. In the final, the team defeated without the David Johnson not used the German champions Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1. After title defense in the European Cup of Champions 1977/78 (1-0 against FC Bruges), the team won by Johnson (30 Ligaspiele/16 goals) 1979 again the English Championship. In the First Division 1979/80 Johnson scored twenty league goals and won the championship for the third time. This was followed by further titles in the European Champions Cup in 1980/81 (1-0 against Real Madrid), the Football League First Division 1981/82 and in the League Cup in 1980/81 and 1981 / 82nd
In August 1982 he returned to Everton, but was unable to repeat his earlier Marksmanship there. In 1985 he ended his playing career.
English national team (1975-1980)
On 21 May 1975, the 23- year-old David Johnson made his debut in the England national team in a 2-2 draw against Wales, scoring just his first two goals. After two more international matches and a goal he was not employed by coach Don Revie again. His next international match took place only under Ron Greenwood on February 6, 1980 in a 2-0 home win against Ireland. In the summer, he was appointed by Greenwood in the English Championship squad. Johnson came in the opening game against Belgium (1-1) used thereafter remained, however, without taking into account and resigned from England after the first round of the European Football Championship 1980.
