David L. Boren

David Lyle Boren (* April 21, 1941 in Washington DC ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). He was from 1975 to 1979 the 21st Governor of Oklahoma from 1979 to 1994 and so far the last Democratic U.S. Senator for that State.

Early years and political rise

David Boren, the son of Congressman Lyle Boren, first attended the public schools in Seminole (Oklahoma ) and Bethesda (Maryland). He then completed until 1963, Yale University. He then continued his education at the University of Oxford in England continued. With a law degree from the University of Oklahoma, he completed his training in 1968. He then worked as an attorney in Seminole.

Between 1968 and 1974 he was in the National Guard of Oklahoma, in which he brought it up to the captain. Between 1967 and 1975 he was also a member of the House of Representatives from Oklahoma. In 1974 he was elected as a candidate of his party for the new governor of his state.

Governor and Senator

David Boren took up his new post on 13 January 1975. As governor he promoted especially the education policy in Oklahoma. He also sat down for an improvement of medical care in rural areas. In 1978, he sought instead of a re-election to a seat in the U.S. Senate, which he also won.

Between 1979 and 1994 David Boren represented his state in Congress. He was a member of several Senate committees and directed the Intelligence Committee. At the origin of the National Security Education Act in 1992 Boren was instrumental.

Further CV

After his resignation as a senator in November 1994 Boren has been associated with several political offices. Ultimately, he became president of the University of Oklahoma. Together with his wife Molly Shi Boren David has two children. The son of Dan Boren represented from 2005 to 2013 the state of Oklahoma as a deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives.
