David Torn

David Torn ( born May 25, 1953 in Amityville, Long Iceland, New York) is an American jazz guitarist and composer.

Torn received his musical training at Leonard Bernstein ( Music for Young People) and John Abercrombie, Pat Martino, Paul Weiss and Arthur Basile. He started his professional career in the 1970s in the Zobo Fun band and became known in the 1980s as a member of the band and Everyman by Jan Garbarek Quartet.

Torn released several albums as a bandleader, as well as a number of CD -ROMs with musical material for use by other musicians. In addition, he worked among others with David Bowie, K.D. long, John Legend, Tori Amos, Tony Levin, Mick Karn, David Sylvian, Chocolate Genius, Michael Shrieve, Steve Roach, Patrick O'Hearn, Andy Rinehart, Matt Chamberlain, Meshell Ndegeocello, Karl Berger and Don Cherry.

Some of his solo records have been actually recorded almost entirely alone. Torn working with drum and guitar loops and reverb effects, distorted the sound of his guitar, creating an own musical world between hypnotic sound of mountains and schrägtaktigen grooves. On the CD What Means Solid, Traveller? He has specifically indicated that there were no synthesizers during the recording, and if you can not assign a sound, one should assume that it was a guitar.

Even as a film musician was known Torn. He worked here mainly with Carter Burwell and George S. Clinton, moreover, Howard Shore and Ryuichi Sakamoto together and worked as a guitarist on the soundtracks of films like Kalifornia (1993 ), Three Kings (1999), Traffic (2000 ) and A Knight 's Tale (2001) with. Since 2000, he also composed the soundtracks for several films. For Believe in Me, he received the Jackson Hole Film Festival 2006 The Cowboy Award of Best Core.

Torn operates his own recording studio, which is Cell Labs, also known under the name splatter Cell. His son Elijah B Torn is known as a musician.
