Geography

Geographical location

Deggingen is located approximately in the middle of the Upper Filstals on the ascent to the Swabian Alb in 470-520 meters altitude.

Coat of arms

In the coat of arms of the town, a white elephant head with underlying yellow, six -pointed star is seen on a red background. The elephant was the heraldic animal of the Counts of Helfenstein, who owned the place until its extinction in 1627. The star is probably just a distinctive additional motif. Elephant's head and star are first occupied in 1551 as a court seal of the market Deggingen. 1954, a different looking city relief was attached to the town hall, which connects the Helfenstein Coat of Arms with the local nobility. At the request of the municipality, the Interior Ministry gave on 30 June 1959, the original coat of arms with the Helfensteiner colors white and red

Road

Deggingen is divided in its north-south axis through the federal highway 466. The highway passes through the entire Upper Fils Valley and thus connects the motorway 8 with Geislingen. Every day this street is frequented by commuters and freight.

Train

Deggingen was from 1903 to 1983 by the branch line Geislingen - Wiesensteig ( " Tälesbahn " ) connected to the rail network. The Royal Württemberg State Railways built the station building as a unit station type IIb.

Wheel

The area of ​​the former railway embankment has been converted into a cycle path. Thus the Upper Fils Valley has a well -developed bike trails and is part of the " Filstalroute ".
