Democrats for Life of America
Democrats For Life of America ( to German: Democrats for Life in America, in short: DFLA ) is an interest group of the Democratic Party in the United States. It belongs to the pro-life movement, which advocates for a ban on abortions. For the distancing of the " pro-life " Republicans they call themselves " for-life " Democrats, because they speak out in contrast to the " pro-life " Republicans also against the death penalty and euthanasia ( euthanasia ). However, the Democratic Party speaks for the majority of abortions, which is why the Democrats for Life are contrary to the party line.
They invented the Pregnant Women Support Act, a comprehensive package of legislation. In this, among other policy proposals have been designed that will reduce the number of abortions. The DFLA is between the Christian Left ( progressive Christians ) to settle and religious right (very conservative Christians ), where it tends more to the Christian left.
Intentions of DFLA
After DFLA the Democratic Party has suffered in elections, especially among its position on abortion proponents. The DFLA depends on opinion polls confirm that cost the position on abortion in the Democratic party many votes religious Americans, especially Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, members of the Pentecostal, Baptist and other evangelical Christians, almost all political positions support the party, but refused because of the advocacy for abortion is to vote Democrat. The DFLA as representing the position in a broad spectrum of religious or " pro-life " Americans to support a Democratic candidate, if this makes it his task to limit abortions in the United States through positive social programs and resources, or to terminate.
Comparisons to the Democratic Party
The mission of the " Democrats For Life of America" differs from the state of the national Democratic Party. At the federal level, the Democratic Party is explicit in their support of the right of women to choose an abortion. From the 2004 democratic party platform:
"We will defend the dignity of all Americans against Those Who would undermine it. Because we believe in the privacy and equality of women, we stand proudly for a woman 's right to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and Regardless of her ability to pay. Firmly We stood against Republican efforts to undermine that right. At the sametime, we 'strongly support family planning and adoption incentives. Abortion Should Be safe, legal, and rare. "
Both the national " Democratic Party " and the " Democrats for Life of America" trying to reduce abortions. The stated intention of the national Democratic party is a legal access to abortion, while reducing the number of abortions and to support social programs. While the DFLA guarantee the support of the implementation of such programs, in particular the " Pregnant Women Support Act ", this also strongly advocate the so-called " for-life " Democrats who want to ban abortion nationally. This disagreement raises a crucial difference between the abortion favorable and the anti -abortion viewpoints forth: While both groups for reducing the number of abortions in favor of social support, stress anti - abortion groups to limit the legal access to abortion. Schwangerschaftsabbruchsbefürwortende groups claim that abortions sure must remain affordable and legal. The party has, however, loosened their previously entrenched position stand under the leadership of Howard Dean and began to support " for-life " Democrats.
