Dumitru Nicolae

Nicolae " Nicuşor " Dumitru ( born December 12, 1928 in Bucharest; † August 8, 2005 ) was a Romanian football player and coach. As a player, he came to 189 inserts in Divizia A, the highest Romanian league. As a coach, he was able to win with Dinamo Bucharest, the Romanian Cup four times.

Career

Association

The career of Dumitru began in 1945 in his hometown of Sparta Bucharest. After a year in Divizia B, he moved in 1947 to local rivals Metalochimic Bucharest, with which he was able to rise in the 1947/48 season in the Divizia A. There he had with his team in the season 1948/49, although dismount post haste, but was given the opportunity to switch to Dinamo Bucharest. In the following years Dinamo became a top club and fought for the championship, which Dumitru in his playing career once - won - in the 1955 season. He remained loyal to the club until the end of his career in 1959.

National

Dumitru denied 1953-1955 a total of eight games for the Romanian national team. He made his debut on 14 June 1953 at the World Cup qualifier against Czechoslovakia. He came under coach Gheorghe Popescu in three out of four qualifiers for use, failed with his team but the leap to the finals in Switzerland. He then remained in the squad Popescu, the friendlies played in the subsequent period, since there was no European Championship between the World Championships. On October 9, 1955, he came to Bulgaria on its last mission.

Coach

After his retirement in 1959 Dumitru assistant coach of Traian Ionescu at Dinamo Bucharest in the summer. Even his successor Constantin Teaşcă he stood to the side, before he inherited it in March 1962 and was first to Dinamo's head coach. At the end of the season he led his team to win the title. In the season 1962/63 he was standing with his club after 13 games at the top, as it Traian Ionescu inherited and Dumitru turn became his assistant. He held this role initially served under Ionescu's successor Angelo Niculescu, before he took over Dinamo second team in 1965 that played as Dinamo Bucharest Victoria in Divizia B.

In the summer of 1967 Dumitru was again head coach of Dinamo Bacau Movers in Divizia A. After relegation in 1968, he led the club at the end of the 1968/69 season to fifth place. Then he got another chance to take on Dinamo Bucharest. In the second half 1970/71 he was forced to stand behind Traian Ionescu, when the club won the championship again. In the summer of 1972 Dumitru was eventually replaced by Ion Nunweiller.

Dimitru went to Ghana in 1973 and was national coach. After the missed qualification for the African Nations Cup in 1974 parted ways again and he returned to Romania, where he inherited Nunweiller as head coach of Dinamo early 1974. After the championship in 1975, he was again replaced by Nunweiller in March 1976. Dumitru took over for the second time the SC Bacau, he was twice lead to relegation.

In 1981 Dumitru assistant coach Valentin Stănescu at Dinamo, whose successor he was in the summer of 1982. The following two years were his most successful time at Dinamo. After the 1983 championship he won with his team in 1984, the league and cup double. At the same time he moved into the semi-finals of the European Cup of Champions, where the team to eventual winners Liverpool eliminated.

After this success, the paths of Dumitru and Dinamo, who went to SC Bacau for the third time separated. With the club he could keep the class twice before the league rivals AS Victoria Bucharest became the successor of Ion Nunweiller in the summer of 1986. With his new club, he could play the 1986/87 season finish in third place and qualify for the UEFA Cup. There divorced his team in the second round against Dinamo Tbilisi. The third place could be repeated in the 1987/88 season.

In the summer of 1988, Dumitru moved to FC Arges Pitesti, after one year parted ways again. At the beginning of the 1991/92 season he became head coach of Dacia Unirea Brăila, but was released after two months and replaced by Ionel Iuga. At the beginning of 1993, he took over the FC Progresul Bucharest and led him to the league.
