Écoquenéauville

Écoquenéauville is a commune with 76 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Manche in Basse-Normandie region. It belongs to the Communauté de communes de Kommunalverband Sainte- Mère- Église.

Geography

It lies in the Cotentin, 2.5 km southeast of the cantonal capital of Sainte- Mère- Église, 8 kilometers west of Utah Beach and 12 kilometers northwest of Carentan on the European road 3 and the D67 in the Regional Natural Park Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin. The hamlet of Le Grand Hameau belongs to the municipality.

History

1793 Écoquenéauville received the status of a municipality (as Ecoqueneanville ) and 1801 the right to local self-government (as Leoqueneauville ) in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ). 1972 were incorporated by Turqueville Écoquenéauville and Sébeville. The newly formed congregation called itself Criqueville -au -Plain. In 1979 they parted Écoquenéauville and Sébeville of Turqueville and were again independent communities.

Between 1793 and 1806, the population grew, it reached its peak at the same time of 242 inhabitants. Thereafter, the population decreased to 1990.

Attractions

In the hamlet of Le Grand Hameau is a farm from the 16th century, with stables, which were built in 1736. The oven was built in 1761 and a sundial bearing the date 1762nd 1769 the main building was enlarged.

The church of Saint -Laurent dates from the 14th century. It was built instead of a building from the 12th century, the foundations of which it uses in part, also originate parts of the west facade of the older church. The bell tower was enlarged in 1761. In the church there is a painted statue of the Virgin and Child from the last quarter of the 14th century. It was classified as a monument historique in 1981 ( historical monument ). The bell - Françoise Barbe was poured in 1737. It was donated by the then Seigneur of the place Bernard Francois Cadot, Marquis of Sébeville, Écoquenéauville, Boutteville, Andoville, Knight of the Ordre royal et militaire de Saint- Louis, and his wife, Dame de Barbe Auzeray Courvadon.
