El Puerto de Santa María

El Puerto de Santa María is a municipality in the south of Spain at the mouth of the Rio Guadalete ( Bay of Cadiz ) in the comarca of Bahía de Cádiz. The city forms the southern end of the " Sherry Triangle ".

The locals call the place most simply as "El Puerto". Many residents of Seville and Madrid to spend due to the fresher coastal climate their summer vacations here. In the city there are many of the sherry bodegas (eg 501, Terry Osborne ) and many " Freidurias " and " Cocederos ", which are offered in fried and boiled seafood for direct human consumption. The city was the starting point of the second America expedition of Christopher Columbus.

The Luis Goytisolo Foundation, located in the Rococo Palace Palacio de Villarreal y Purullena from the 18th century, organized annual symposia on the Spanish presence narrative. The place has a greater Corrida de Toros Arena near the city center.

Traffic

El Puerto de Santa Maria is served by several catamaran ships to the provincial capital Cádiz and to the seaside resort of Rota. By 2011, reversed and the motor vessel Adriano III, but this is dropped during a docking maneuver in Cádiz. El Puerto de Santa Maria is located on the railway line Sevilla - Cadiz. Intercity bus services are offered by several companies.
