Emilia Nyström

Emilia Nystrom (* September 13 1983 in Muurame ) is a Finnish beach volleyball player.

Career

Nyström plays together with her twin sister Erika. At the World Junior Championships in 2001 in Le Lavandou and 2002 in Catania, the sisters each reached the ninth. Between the two competitions they completed their first professional tournament at the Stavanger Open. As a fifth-placed the World Junior Championships in 2003 in Saint -Quay- Portrieux they were also in the 2003 European Championship in Alanya and occupied the ninth. With the same result, they reached the following year in Marseille for the first time the top ten of a Grand Slam tournament. At the World Championships in Berlin in 2005, however it was enough just to place 33 Two years later, the global tournament in Gstaad for the Nyström sisters ended as 37th as the 2009 World Championships in Stavanger. At the European Championships 2008 in Hamburg there was a 25th place. Your biggest success so far celebrated Erika and Emilia Nystrom two years later at the continental tournament in Berlin. After a brief semi-final defeat ( 14:16 in the tiebreak ) against the German duo Katrin Holt Wick / Ilka Semmler they won with a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands team Sanne Keizer / Marleen Van Iersel the first bronze medal by a Finnish team in the international beach volleyball. At the World Championships 2011 in Rome, the 2011 European Championships in Kristiansand and the EM 2012 Scheveningen Nyström / Nyström occupied each 17th place at the World Cup 2013 in Stare Jabłonki they reached the second round, where they did against the U.S. women Fendrick / Hochevar and occupied ninth place.

In the years 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 the sisters won the Finnish national championship.
