2013 Beach Volleyball World Championships

The Beach Volleyball World Championships 2013 took place from July 1 to 7 in Stare Jabłonki (Poland). The competitions for men and women were held in parallel. It was the ninth official World Cup. In the women's final, the Chinese women Xue Chen and Zhang Xi won by a 2-1 victory over the German duo Karla Borger and Britta Büthe the title. Third place was reached the Brazilians Liliane Maestrini and Barbara Seixas. The bronze medal of the men won the German champion Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik with a win against the dethroned defending champion Alison / Emanuel from Brazil. New world champions were the Dutchman Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen, which prevailed in the final against the Brazilians Ricardo Santos and Álvaro Morais Filho. The German Volleyball Federation was a total of eight duos at the start, Switzerland and Austria were represented by five teams.

Mode

For women and men, respectively 48 teams competed. For both tournaments three wildcards were awarded. Every continent was represented by at least one team.

In twelve preliminary round groups of four teams played FFA for a place in the main round. For a victory, there were two points for a defeat one point. The top two teams from each group and the eight best third reached the next round. From there on it was in the simple knockout system on to the finals.
