Doris Schwaiger

Doris Schwaiger (born 28 February 1985 in Allentsteig, Austria ) is an Austrian beach volleyball player. Together with her sister and partner Stefanie Schwaiger she became European Champion and Austrian Champion.

Career

Doris Schwaiger forms since 2001, a duet with her younger sister Stefanie. In 2002, the Schwaiger sisters participated in the U18 World Cup and for the first time at the U20 European Championship. After they had already won 2003 A1 Masters, they played the following year for the first time at a Grand Slam in Klagenfurt and occupied the 17th place. In 2005 she took part in the U21 World Cup and were ninth at the World Series tournament in Montreal. The greatest successes in 2006 were the third place at the U23 European Championships and seventh ranks at the World Tour concert in Modena and Warsaw. In 2008, the Schwaiger sisters qualified for the Beijing Olympics and reached the quarterfinals there. This success could be repeated at the World Championships next year. Your best result at the FIVB World Tour so far was winning the silver medal at the tournament in Kristiansand. In 2009 both sisters marched the army, where they act as competitive athletes after basic training.

2010

At the Grand Slam in Rome, the Schwaiger sisters reached for the first time in the season the quarter-finals, together with the Germans Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig occupied the Austrians at the following Seoul Open to fifth place. In Marseilles they could ever reach a final for the second time, but that they lost to the Brazilians Talita and Antonelli. Both the subsequent Grand Slam in Klagenfurt as well as the following tournament in Stare Jablonki Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger occupied the shared fifth place.

2011

After a ninth place in the Grand Slam in Beijing, the sisters took part in the World Championships in Rome. There they had after a second place in the preliminary round group and a win against the Swiss women Kuhn / Zumkehr in the second round to Talita / Antonelli beaten. In August she played at the European Championship in Kristiansand, where they also were eliminated in the second round against the Czechs Klapalová / Háječková.

2012

The new season began for the Schwaigers in China, where they were the Ninth Sanya Open and fifth in the Grand Slams in Shanghai. The European Championships in The Hague ended for the duo in the first knockout round in which there was a 1-2 defeat against the Belgians Mouha / Gielen. Nevertheless, the sisters qualified with their position in the world rankings for the Olympic Games in London. There, they came across the " Lucky Loser" round of the last sixteen third group, which they won in three sets against the Russians Wassina / Wosakowa. After the quarter-final defeat against Zhang Xi / Xue Chen from China, they finished the tournament in joint fifth place.

2013

The FIVB World Tour 2013 has begun with the Satellite tournament in Antalya where you failed in the quarterfinals to Liliana / Baquerizo and finished ninth. Also ninth place occupied the Schwaigers the first tournament of the season on Chinese soil, the Fuzhou open, after they had lost in the quarter-final against the Brazilians Antonelli / Ágatha. Following, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year 2013 in Shanghai, they were able to defeat the course of the tournament, among other things Ludwig / Walkenhorst and van Gestel / Meppelink to only had the Brazilians Talita / Lima defeated and took second place. There followed the first tournament of the season in South America, the Grand Slam Corrientes in Argentina, the less successful was a departure in the group stage.

Back in Europe, the sisters were at the Masters tournament in Baden decide the final against the Swiss women Zumkehr / Heidrich in three sets for himself and won her first international title. At the Grand Slam tournament in The Hague was reached, after a defeat against Talita / Lima from Brazil, as well as during the subsequent Grand Slam in Rome, the Ninth Square. Afterwards we went to Stare Jablonki to the FIVB beach volleyball World Championships where the duo was able to achieve fifth place. Here it defeated the rural women Hansel / Schützenhöfer before it failed from the United States in the quarterfinals at Ross / Pavlik. When Gstaad Grand Slam, the sisters were Ninth, they were governed by the German Ludwig / Walkenhorst in the second round.

In Klagenfurt Stefanie Schwaiger reached, together with her sister, Doris, at the Beach Volleyball European Championship 2013 European champion and was named the best player of the tournament. One opening defeat in the pool phase was followed by two victories and the rise as a group first. After a clear victory over the Germans Borger / Kiesling in the second round, the sisters engaged in a hard-fought game against the Russians Chomjakowa / Ukulowa in the semifinals before. In the semifinals, the duo Ludwig / Walkenhorst, which was defeated clearly waited. Finally, in the final against the Spaniards Liliana / Baquerizo scored a victory in three sets.
