2005 Beach Volleyball World Championships

The Beach Volleyball World Championships 2005 took place from 21 to 26 June in Berlin ( Germany). The competitions for men and women were held in parallel. It was the sixth official World Cup. For women, the U.S. Americans Kerri Walsh and Misty May- Treanor defended their title with a final victory against the Brazilian duo Larissa / Juliana. For men, the Brazilians Marcio Araujo and Fabio Luiz Magalhaes, new world champion by a success in the final against the Swiss Sascha Heyer and Paul Laciga while Julius Brink and Kjell Schneider won the bronze medal in a German duel. The German Volleyball Federation was represented as hosts with a total of thirteen, Austria and Switzerland with six with five teams.

Mode

For women and men, respectively 48 teams competed. The competition was held on the principle of double knock out. The tournament was held at the Palace Square in Berlin -Mitte. For women and men, two wildcards were awarded; that benefited from the German duo Goller / Ludwig, Brink-Abeler/Jurich and pitcher / Urbatzka and the Portuguese Maia / Brenha. For the tournament winner, it gave $ 62,000 each in prize money and 1000 points for the world rankings for each team.
