2008 Nestea European Championship Final

The Beach Volleyball Championship 2008 was held from July 13 in Hamburg on 10. The respective competitions for men and women were held in parallel. The German duo Sara Goller / Laura Ludwig was a victory against the Norwegians Hakedal / Tørlen European champions. Okka Rau and Stephanie Pohl was defeated in the match for third place, the second Norwegian duo Glesnes / Maaseide. In the men's Kay Matysik and Stefan Uhmann were defeated in the final the Dutch Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil. Julius Brink and Christoph Dieckmann could not compete in the small final against the Russians Barsuk / Kolodinski.

Organization and media

Organizer of the tournament, which was played by DVV, was the European Association CEV. The four courses were at the City Hall Square ( Centre Court ) and on Grosse Elbstrasse. A total of 200,000 euros in prize money was awarded to the participants, one half each for men and women. The new European Champion received them every 20,000 euros. Also, winning the title with 800 points for the European and 500 points was rewarded for the world rankings. The transmitter laola1.tv showed the matches live and free on the Internet stream.

Mode

For women and men, respectively, 32 teams competed. Germany could provide as hosts of four. In addition, a total of three wildcards were awarded.

The competition was held in the double - knockout system. In a defeat in the main round ( winner's bracket ), the duo came into the losers bracket. The two winners of the main round met in the semifinals of the winner of the losers bracket. The winners of the semi-finals determined the new European Champion in the final.
