Enerhodar

Enerhodar (Ukrainian Енергодар; Russian Энергодар / Energodar ) is a city in southeastern Ukraine with about 54,000 inhabitants ( 2013). It lies in the Zaporizhia Oblast on the left bank of the Kachowkaer dam on the lower reaches of the Dnieper River in the Black Sea Lowland. The capital of the oblast, Zaporizhia, located upriver 70 km away.

History

The place was founded with the construction of the thermal power station Zaporozhye on 12 June 1970 and is one of the youngest cities of Ukraine. The first two years nameless, he received in 1972 the name Enerhodar and on 14 August 1985, the city rights.

The construction of the nuclear power plant Zaporizhia 1981, the city is home to the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which provides 6,000 megawatts and is the largest employer in the city.
