Equestrian at the 1956 Summer Olympics

The Pony Play the Games of the XVI. Olympics were held in 1956 in Stockholm, Sweden. From 10 to 17 June, the six Olympic competitions of equestrian sports were held in Stockholm Stadium from 1912.

Outsourcing the Equestrian Games of Melbourne in Australia to Stockholm was necessary because the strict quarantine conditions in Australia would have meant a six-month quarantine for the horses. Other candidate cities were Paris (France ), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil ), Berlin ( Germany ), Los Angeles ( USA) and Buenos Aires ( Argentina).

In the last jump of the competition Hans Günter Winkler was the famous ride on his " wonder mare " Halla. He rode with a hernia under heavy medication, ostensibly to have no control over the horse, which carried him on their own initiative without errors along the course, to the gold medal. Winkler himself admitted this rumor later; he had always had control of his horse, albeit with great pain.
