Eric Knittel

Eric Knittel ( born April 20, 1983 in Berlin ) is a German rower. His biggest success is the gold win at the world championships in the double sculls, 2009.

Knittel, 2003 was the first time a member of the national team, at the U23 World Championships he won the bronze medal in the lightweight quadruple sculls. 2004 Knittel was German champion in the lightweight single sculls and qualified in this class of boat for the U23 World Championships. There he became vice world champion.

2005 won Knittel the CRASH -B World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston, the title at the World Championships on the rowing ergometer, in the category of light-weight men. For the season he moved to the open weight class and, together with Falko Nolte U23 vice champion in the double sculls. In the following two years Knittel was used in various boat classes in the World Cup and was in each case at the World Rowing Championships in Eton and Munich spare rowers. At the helm European Championships 2007, he won bronze in the double sculls with Tim Bartels.

After a back injury in late 2007 Knittel missed qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, came in 2009, however, with the third place at the German small boat championships in the national top before. Together with the runner-up Stephan Kruger he made the German double sculls for the World Championships in Poznan, where the team after a strong final sprint was able to win the gold medal.

Due to injury, the double sculls going until the 2010 European Championships rowing back to the start. Knittel and Kruger occupied fourth place here and also rowed at the World Championships in Lake Karapiro for Germany.

Knittel starts for the Berliner RC.
