Escatrón

Escatrón is a Spanish municipality ( municipio ) in the province of Zaragoza the Aragon Autonomous Region. It is located in the comarca of Ribera Baja del Ebro on the right bank of the Ebro River at the mouth of the Río Martín. The village had 1104 inhabitants on 1 January 2013.

History

Originally called Scatro place was reconquered by King Alfonso el Batallador 1133 from the Moors.

During the Civil War the area was initially controlled by the Republicans in the part of Spain. There was an airfield, which was also used by fighters of the Red Army. In the course of Aragon offensive, the area fell to the National Spaniards. Escatrón served in the further course of the offensive initially also Heinkel He 45 reconnaissance and later Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter planes of the German Condor Legion as a base, and later during the Battle of the Ebro used the Italian Aviazione Legionaria the square.

Economy

Unlike in most of the Aragonese communities of this size, the economy is not based mainly on agriculture, but it is of the thermal power station (Central Termoeléctrica del Ebro Escatrón - Los Fayos E.On España) supported that by 2011 based on lignite (occurrence of Andorra ( Teruel) and Mequinenza ) electricity produced before it was replaced by a newly built gas - and -steam combined cycle power plant.
