Étagnières

Etagnières is a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Etagnières is located on 628 m above sea level. M., 9 km north of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The scattered village extends to the vast plateau of the Gros de Vaud, on the western edge of the heights of the Jorat, in the Vaud Mittelland.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1202 under the name Estanneres. Later, the names Estaneres ( 1290 ), Etanières ( 1377 ), Ethagnires ( 1403 ) and Estagnyeres (1424 ) published. The place name is derived from the French word Tanière ( cave, construction of a wild animal ).

Etagnières belonged in the Middle Ages to the rule Echallens. After the Burgundian Wars, the village came in 1476 at the Bailiwick Orbe Echallens, which was under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. The fief of Etagnières that temporarily belonged to the Counts of Greyerz, was sold by these 1518 Bern and Fribourg. Even after the Reformation, villagers remained predominantly in the Catholic faith, and the church was used by both denominations.
