Figueiró dos Vinhos is a Vila ( town ) and a circle ( concelho ) in Central Portugal with 3425 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011). With the village of Casal de São Simão is a village here the route of the Schist Villages, the aldeias do xisto.
History
Figueiró dos Vinhos received city rights in 1204. King Manuel I. renewed the city rights ( Foral ) on 16 April 1514. From the 17th century ensured erected two monasteries here and the onset of mining of iron ore and its processing in the community for some development.
In the late 19th and early 20th century the place was known to be the site of various artists. ( 1855-1933 ) and Henrique Pinto (1853 - 1912) as well as the native-born sculptor Simões de Almeida here (1844 - 1926) So the painter José Malhoa died.
