Fiorano Modenese

Fiorano Modenese is a town with 17,066 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Province of Modena in the Emilia- Romagna.

Geography

Fiorano Modenese is located 10 km southwest of Modena and about 50 km west of Bologna. The neighboring municipalities are Formigine, Maranello, Sassuolo and Serramazzoni. The municipality also includes the villages ( fractions) Spezzano and Nirano.

Economy

The town and its surroundings are largely determined by the ceramic industry.

Nearby is the Pista di Fiorano, the test track of the Scuderia Ferrari.

Attractions

Spezzano Castle was built in the 11th century and in 1225 first mentioned. In 1395 it reached as fief to the family of Pio of Carpi. This built the castle from a fortress into a political and administrative center for and built the Palace of Pio in which an existing out of 56 fresco cycle " vista dei Feudi Pio " is where the castles, towns and lands owned by the Pio is shown. Since 1982, the castle is owned by the municipality of Fiorano Modenese. It now houses a ceramics museum.

A fortress in Fiorano Modenese was destroyed in 1510. In their place, the Sanctuary della beata Vergine del Castello was built starting in 1634, which was completed only in 1889. It contains frescoes by Tommaso Costa.

The parish church of Fiorano Modenese is from the year 1572.
