Flag of French Guiana

As a French overseas territory, the official flag of French Guiana is the flag of France. But there are also flags for the department and the region.

On 29 January 2010, the General Council of the department officially adopted its own flag which has since been placed alongside the European flag and the French tricolor. Originally it was the flag of the Union of Travailleurs Guyanais ( Guyanese Workers Union ), the largest union of French Guiana. It is regarded as one of the strongest advocates of independence from France. It was first used in September 1967, and soon became a widespread, unofficial symbol of French Guiana. Officially, the flag was adopted at the 11th Congress from 25 to 27 November 2004 as a symbol of the UTG. The flag is divided diagonally.
