Flores Department
Flores is a department in Uruguay. It is located in the central west of the country.

Geography
Location
The expansion of an area of 5144 km ² comprising the department lies in that part of Uruguay, known as crystalline Plain and includes the northeast part of the country. It is a diverse area with mountain ranges, smaller hills and a sea of stones that provide good drainage in the area. The southern half of Flores is crossed by the Cuchilla Grande Inferior. The Arroyo Chamanga flows through the department.
Climate
In Flores has a temperate climate.
Mineral resources
On the Departamentogebiet are located both in the south and west of it at Pintos with Ismael Cortinas deposits of black granite.
History
The formation of the department took place on December 30, 1885.
Population
While in 2004 25 104 inhabitants were counted, was found in the context of the census of 2011, population 25,050. Of these, 12,342 men and 12,708 women. Of them are living in the capital Trinidad alone 21,429 inhabitants (as of 2011; 2004: 20,982 ), corresponding to a total share of over 80 %. The second largest city in the country is Ismael Cortinas with only 1069 inhabitants ( 2004). Other settlements are Andresito, La Casilla, Cerro Colorado and Juan José Castro. The department is the least populated of the country.

Education
Flores has a total of three secondary schools ( Liceos ), in which 1,901 students are taught by 177 teachers. The oldest Liceo of the department is based in the capital of the department of Trinidad, was founded on April 8, 1912 Liceo Departamental " Carlos Mosquera Brignoni ". (As of December 2008)
Economy
Cereals, flax and wine are also part of the economic activities within the department as the sheep.
Policy
The leadership of the executive branch of the department, the Office of Intendente, holds Armando Castaingdebat of the Partido Nacional.
