Forbes 500

Forbes 500 was an annual list of the 500 largest companies in the United States. The list was last published by the U.S. business magazine Forbes magazine in March 2003 with the data for fiscal year 2002 and replaced by the annual list Forbes Global 2000 in 2003.

The list was created to answer the question of the largest companies in the United States. The problem here is to determine what constitutes a "great " company. Forbes Magazine has chosen in this list for a balanced mix of the five factors sales, profit, shareholder value, market value and number of employees.

At the same criteria, but without taking into account the number of employees, the Forbes Global 2000 list is created. The rankings of the companies are added together in the equally weighted categories to a rank.
