Frank Irons

Frank Irons (actually Francis Cleveland Irons; born March 23, 1886 in Des Moines, Iowa, † June 19, 1942 in Palatine, Illinois) was an American track and field athlete. At a height of 1.67 m his competition weight was 59 kg.

At the Olympic Games in 1908 Irons competed in four disciplines. In the standing long jump, the placement is not known in the state high jump with 1.42 meters, he finished tied with several other 8th place in the triple jump with 12.67 meters was Irons Sixteenth. In the long jump he finally won with 7.48 meters and nearly forty centimeters ahead of the Second gold.

At the Olympic Games in 1912 Irons was active only in the long jump. With 6.80 meters, he finished ninth. Since Jim Thorpe, the seventh- place finisher was disqualified, Irons was out in eighth place from 1913. In 1982, the rehabilitation of Thorpe officially concerned only his two gold medals.
