Palatine is a village in Cook County in the U.S. state of Illinois with the legal form of a Village. In the 2010 census Palatine had 68 557 inhabitants.

Geography

Palatine is located on the very edge of the Chicago metropolitan area, about 50 km north- west of the city of Chicago. The largest neighboring cities are Arlington Heights in the south east, the south Schaumburg, Barrington and Lake Zurich in the north- west, and Lincolnshire in the northeast.

History

Palatine 'd founded in 1866. It was built around a stop on the new Chicago and North Western Railway. Joel Wood has measured the country and is regarded as the founder of Palatine. One of the streets in the village center was named after him.

The place had a strong population growth since the 1970s, as part of Chicago's strong sprawling suburban areas.

Demographic data

According to the United States Census 2000, there were 65 479 inhabitants in 25,518 households and 16,586 families. The population was composed of 83.05 % White, 7.56 % Asian, and 2.15% Black. Hispanics or Latinos represented 14.12% of the population. The per capita income was 30 661 U.S. dollars and 4.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.

Traffic

Palatine has a stops at the Union Pacific / Northwest Line of the Metra, which ensures a daily shuttle service between Harvard and Chicago. The village has about the Illinois State Route 53 connecting to Interstate 90, which provides connection to 25 km southeast to O'Hare International Airport, the city of Chicago and other suburbs.
