Hoffman Estates is a village in Cook and to a lesser extent in Kane County in the northeast of the U.S. State of Illinois and part of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 2000, Hoffman Estates had 49,495 inhabitants; to the census in 2010, the population increased to 51 895.

Geography

Hoffman Estates is located at 42 ° 3'47 " north latitude and 88 ° 7'9 " west longitude and extending over 51.54 km ², spread over 51.02 km ² land and 0.52 km ² water surface.

Hoffman Estates is located approximately 50 kilometers northeast of downtown Chicago.

Immediately adjacent to Hoffman Estates Schaumburg municipalities in the south, in the west of Elgin, South Barrington in the northwest, Barrington and Inverness in the north, the northeast and Palatine Mount Prospect in the East.

The O'Hare International Airport, the largest airport of Chicago, located 27.4 km south east of Hoffman Estates.

The western shore of Lake Michigan is located approximately 50 km east of Hoffman Estates.

History

After the completion of the highway in 1958 Hoffman Estates was founded a year later than typical satellite town for commuters to the nearby metropolis of Chicago. At the beginning of the 1960s expanded the municipal area to the north of the highway beyond.

An attempt to rename the place in East Barrington, failed at the beginning of the 1980s, the vote of the residents.

In the 1990s the industrial estate Prairie Stone Business Park was opened. The development quickened as the Sears moved its headquarters from the former Sears Tower in Chicago to Hoffman Estates. In the following years, other companies were added.
