History

In 1961 the city council of Frankfurt decided to build a metro network. The connection of a new housing estate - the northwest city - to the city center, was the background for the route of the first metro line. Construction began in 1963 near the present station Miquel-/Adickesallee/Polizeipräsidium (now there is the foundation to find). The first section of the subway, the A- line, could be opened in 1968. She led from the present station Nordwestzentrum to the main station. 1971 was followed by the section to Ginn 's home. Two years later, the line was to Theatre Square Metro Station, today expanded Willy -Brandt-Platz, the guard was no longer so terminus. 1978, the traffic with customized tramcars of type Mt was set to the A- line, so that even to Hohemark now exclusively frequented rail vehicles. Thus, the U1 -U3 drove to the station, this was 2010, also traveling on the A- line U8.

The development of the S- Bahn service took more time to complete. Although in 1962 the construction of an S- Bahn network was decided by the German Federal Railroad, it was only 16 years later - be opened to traffic - May 28, 1978. For all that time lines main guard was until 1983 terminus. To allow fast turning of the trains, the new drivers already increased at the main station in the rear cab, and could control the train in the opposite direction so after a short wait. With the opening of the S-Bahn station Konstablerwache the main guard was a through station.

Trams no longer on the main guard since 1986.
