Fužine, Croatia

Fužine is a municipality in Croatia in Primorje - Gorski Kotar.

Location and population

The municipality is located in the southwestern part of the Fužine Gorski Kotar, 30 km east of Rijeka Surrounded by three lakes Bajer, Lepenica and Potkoš. The mountains in the area Viševica 1428 m and 1385 m Bitoraj allow a view to the sea with the Kvarner islands.

The total municipality comprises the six villages Belo Selo, Benkovac Fužinski, Fužine, Lič, Slavica and Vrata and have according to census 2011 1.592 inhabitants, of whom 685 live alone in the main town Fužine.

History

The oldest settlement of the community, Lič was first mentioned in the 12th century. In the 1950s, the cave was discovered Vrelo. Today, the 300 m long cave is a major tourist attraction.
