Gauliga Ostpreußen

The Gauliga East Prussia was one of 16 top football leagues, which were founded after the Nazi seizure of power in Germany in 1933. In it, the East Prussian participants was determined in the final round of the German Cup.

History

The Gauliga East Prussia was when it was introduced in 1933 for two seasons, in which seven teams around the East Prussian Championship and thus the participants played in the finals of the German Cup. The season winner played in return game from the Gaumeister.

In 1935, the number of participants and therefore the number of seasons has been doubled. The respective best two teams played in a further split in final two seasons of the respective finalists of Gaumeisterschaft.

1938 was the next reform. The top ten teams of the different seasons qualified for the now single-track Gaumeisterschaft. The following season suffered from the bad weather and the impact of World War II. After some teams were not able to participate, the host department chose the strongest four teams that determined the Gaumeister with each other.

1940, the teams of the governmental district Marienwerderstraße were ( until 1939 Reg.bez. Westpreußen ) and Danzig associated with the new Gauliga Danzig-West Prussia. Therefore, the season began with eight teams after the withdrawal of lawn sports Prussia Konigsberg during the season, the season was, however, ended with only seven clubs. Analog ran the following two seasons, when Prussia Insterburg after matchday four and one year later SV Prussia withdrew Mielau after the second match.

The season 1944/45 was due to the war no longer takes place.
