Glarus Süd

Glarus Süd is since 1 January 2011, a municipality ( commune unit ) in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland.

It was created as part of the Glarus government reform by the merger of municipalities Betschwanden, Braunwald, Elm, Engi, Haslen, Linthal, Luchsingen, Matt, Mitlödi, Ruti ( GL), Schwanden ( GL), Schwändi and Sool.

Geography

The municipality of Glarus Süd includes the rear Linthtal, also called Grosstal and the entire Sernftal, also called Kleintal. With an area of 430 km ² it is the beginning of 2011, the largest municipality in Switzerland. The municipality extends from an altitude of 504 m above sea level. M. Mitlödi in the north. Up to the top of Todi with an altitude of 3'614 m above sea M. in the south.

Traffic

The community is being developed by the Klausen Pass road from Glarus to Altdorf UR. If the Klausen Pass is closed during the winter months, the valley is only accessible from the north via Glarus. Connection to public transport by railway line to Linthal, the bus operators in Sernftal as well as numerous bus and bus lines and several cable cars safely.
