Goumoens-la-Ville

Goumoens -la -Ville was a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. July 1, 2011 Goumoens -la -Ville went up in the new community Goumoëns.

Geography

Goumoens -la- Ville is located at 618 m above sea level. M., 3 km northwest of Echallens and 16 km north of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The village is located on the vast plateau of central Gros de Vaud, east of the talent in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​7.3 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating plateau of Gros de Vaud, the granary of the canton of Vaud. Population

With 660 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Goumoens -la -Ville was one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 95.9 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 1.6 % and 0.7 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Goumoens -la -Ville in 1850 amounted to 443 inhabitants, 1900 to 449 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1970 to 361 people, a significant population increase has been reported with nearly a doubling of the population within 30 years.

Economy

Goumoens -la -Ville was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Traffic

Goumoens -la -Ville is good transport links, although located far away from larger thoroughfares on a main road of Echallens to Chavornay. The highway connecting La Sarraz at the 1981 opened A1 (Lausanne -Yverdon ) is just 3 km from the center. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1228 under the name Guimuens li vila. Later, the names Gomoens, Gomuens, Gumuens and Gumoyns published. The place name is derived from the Burgundian personal names Gudemod.

Goumoens -la -Ville belonged in the Middle Ages, first to rule Goumoens the same noble family which is mentioned in the 11th century and resided in Goumoens -le- Châtel, now known as Saint -Barthélemy. Parts of the village were also the Bishop of Lausanne and the cathedral chapter. In the course of the 13th century, the non-contiguous territory was split into three parts. Attractions

The Protestant parish church was mentioned in the 12th century as the center of a large parish, to which also belonged Echallens. The church was remodeled and restored in the 15th and 16th centuries as well as 1848 and is now a listed building. Inside Gothic wall paintings have survived from the 14th century.

The Castle (Château - lingerie) originates in the core of the Middle Ages and has three square towers and a prison tower. These homes were built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The castle now houses a social medical center and a nursing home. In the center of Goumoens -la -Ville some typical farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. The town's landmark is a 1940 erbauter, highly visible, 37 m high water tower on the hill north of the village.
