Greetings From Asbury Park, N. J. is the first studio album by American rock singer Bruce Springsteen. The band, with whom he recorded the album, was at that time no name yet, but is viewed as an early E Street Band. Officially it was announced but only from 1974 onwards with that name. The album sold over 25,000 times in the first year and a total of around 2 million times (as of January 2008).

History

Springsteen and his first manager Mike Appel decided the album in the cheapest 914 Sound Studios in Orange Town, Rockland County to take in order to save as much of the advance from the record company, Columbia Records can.

The two titles Blinded by the Light and Spirit in the Night were released as singles, but reached no significant placements.

2003 Album of the U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone was selected at No. 379 of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The Manfred Mann's Earth Band coverte three tracks on the album: Spirit in the Night ( Nightingales & Bombers, 1975), Blinded by the Light ( The Roaring Silence, 1976) and For You (Chance, 1980). With Blinded by the Light the Earth Band in 1976 reached a No. 1 hit in the United States.

David Bowie later took on three tracks on the album. Growin 'Up appeared on a re-issue of Pin Ups, a plate with cover versions. The title of It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City, he published on the 3- CD box Sound Vision. Spirits in the Night was finally selected for the Astro nice.

In 2010, the album with the following six studio albums in the CD box set The Collection 1973 appeared - 84
