Grutten Hut

The Gruttenhütte is a mountain hut of the Section Turner -Alps- wreath of the German Alpine Club in the Kaiser mountains in Tyrol.

Location

The cottage is located on the sunny south side of the Wilder Kaiser on a grassy paragraph high above Ellmau and Going with great views, ranging on a clear day to GROßVENEDIGER. Towering above the high traffic base of the Ellmau maintenance, the highest peak 2344 m in the Kaiser Mountains. On summer days, the Gruttenhütte is a popular destination for hikers and an important starting point for mountaineers and climbers that can do from here numerous alpine tours to the summit of the Wilder Kaiser.

History

From the Section Alps Turner wreath and Carl Babenstuber 1899 Gruttenhütte was built on the present site and officially opened on 14 July 1900. Soon after, a glass veranda, a laundry and a Mulistall were built. 1922 a separate bunkhouse, the Josef- thorn - house was built and in 1925 created the then landlord Hans Eisenmann, a climbing plant through the Wild Gschloß, today Jubiläumssteig. In 1938, a further selection, change and expansion, also emerged as another bedroom house, Emil- Kempfle house. During the Second World War, the Gruttenhütte will be confiscated and will remain closed until 1951 after the opening of the border to Tyrol was a strong rush. This was followed in the 60s again large and expansion measures. Even after a new source version, the coverage was not much bigger, and just before the 100th birthday of a complex sewer was completed. This not only ensures the water abstraction and supply, but also the supply of the cottage with electricity and telephone. In 2002, the sanitary facilities were modernized and built a wooden deck.

By car Coming from Kufstein about Scheffau or from Salzburg via Lofer and St. Johann in Tirol to Ellmau. Branch thence north and eventually up via a toll road for week Alm ( 1080 m) with ample parking.

Access paths

  • From week Alm on the designated hut in about 1 ½ hours to the hut (540 meters altitude).
  • From Ellmau or Scheffau about the Riedlhutte and the road to the hut in 2 ½ hours ( 800 meters ).
  • From Going over the Gaudeamushütte and Klamml, a steep gully, in 3 hours ( 800 meters ).
