Guryevsk, Kemerovo Oblast

Guryevsk (Russian Гурьевск ) is a city in Kemerovo Oblast (Russia) with 24 817 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the west of the central part of the Kuzbass, in the foothills of Salairrückens about 200 km south of Kemerovo Oblasthauptstadt and 30 km south-west of the river Belovo Maly Batschat. The climate is continental.

The city is the administrative center of the Guryevsk Rajons same name. The town is the city of wages with 8,999 and two villages with a total population of 196 subordinate, so that the total population of the administrative unit " city Guryevsk " is 34 734 (calculated 2009).

Guryevsk is (only freight ) over a railway line opened in 1926 with Belovo at the track Jurga - connected with Novokuznetsk and wages.

History

Guryevsk arose in 1815 in connection with the construction of a silver hut, which was put into operation on 15 November 1816. 1826, the plant was converted to an ironworks (production of cast iron), which until 1908 was first in operation. Were named factory and moved to the former (1810-1823) Russian Finance Minister Dmitry Gurjev, which was also in the Altai mining district.
