Topki (town), Kemerovo Oblast

Topki (Russian Топки ) is a city in Kemerovo Oblast (Russia) with 28,641 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the northern part of the Kuzbass, about 35 km southwest of Oblasthauptstadt Kemerovo. The climate is continental.

The city is the administrative center of the Topki Rajons same name.

Topki is located on the opened on this section in 1915 a railroad from Jurga on the Trans-Siberian Railroad across Leninsk- Kuznetsk ( until 1925 Kolchugino ) to Novokuznetsk. Here also branches off a branch line opened in 1915 from Kemerovo. The M53 highway leads north past the town.

History

Topki written in 1914 during the construction of the railway lines of Jurga after Kolchugino (now Leninsk- Kuznetsk ) and Kemerovo. The name derives from a denomination of swamps or generally places where you can sink into the regional dialect of Russian (cf. топкий = swampy, boggy ). In 1929, the resultant to the railway station place for urban-type settlement, 1933, he received city rights. First, the city was the Rajon, since 1963 it is directly subordinate to the oblast.
