Hajdú County

The Hajdú ( German rarely county Heiduck or Heiduckenkomitat; Hungarian Hajdú Vármegye ) was a historic administrative unit ( county / county ) in the Kingdom of Hungary, the name is derived from the Hungarian word for brigand.

Location

It lay on the left side of the Tisza river and was quite flat, fertile, and in the limited of the Tisza northwestern part places marshy. To the west of Debrecen (Hungarian Debrecen ), the formerly very fertile Hortobágy Puszta.

The county bordered on the counties of Borsod, Szabolcs, Bihar, Békés ( short distance to the south), Jasz -Nagykun -Szolnok and Heves.

History

The county was established in the administrative reform in Hungary in 1876 from parts of the counties of Szabolcs and Bihar, which were merged with the haidouk district.

In 1918 it came to Hungary and was now reduced to 1950 with small changes of territory in this form, Hajdú- Bihar after which it was the remains of the county of Bihar to the now existing county combined.
