Ugocsa County

County Ugocsa ( German and county Ugotsch; Hungarian Vármegye Ugocsa, Latin comitatus Ugotsensis ) was an administrative unit (county / county ) in the Kingdom of Hungary. Today is the smaller part (about 1/4 of the area ) in northern Romania (now Satu Mare), the larger part ( about 3/4 of the area ) in Western Ukraine ( Transcarpathian oblast ).

Location

The county bordered on the north by the Bereg county, in the east by the county Máramaros and on the south by the county of Satu Mare ( Szatmár ).

It lay on both sides of the Tisza and 1910 had had 91,800 inhabitants in an area of 1,213 km ².

History

The county was until 1918 part of the Kingdom of Hungary and was then between the newly formed Czechoslovakia (as part of the Carpathian Ukraine ) and Romania ( incorporated in the District of Satu Mare) divided.

As a result of the First Vienna Award in 1939, the area came back to Hungary, and the county was re-established with the capital Nagyszőllős. After the end of World War II the pre-war state was restored, the Czechoslovak Carpathians Ukraine, however, was part of the Soviet Union (specifically the Ukrainian SSR ). Since 1991, the northern part of independent Ukraine belongs ( here in the Transcarpathian Oblast located ).
