Haplogroup J-P209

Haplogroup J is a human genetics Haplogroup of the Y chromosome. It is differentiated by the genetic marker 12f2.1 and by the similar marker M304.

Origin

From Haplogroup J is believed that they originated 31,700 years ago (plus or minus 12,800 years ) in the Middle East ( Semino et al. 2004). It is most closely related to haplogroup I, I and J as progeny of haplogroup IJ (S2, S22) shown. Together with the haplogroups G, H and K, and IJ derived in turn from F haplogroup. The subgroups J1 and J2, which now accounts for the entire haplogroup, should have originated very early about 10,000 years ago.

Haplogroup J is found in its highest concentration in the Caucasus and Southwest Asia. Outside these regions, haplogroup J is moderately distributed in southern Europe ( especially in central and southern Italy, Greece and Albania), as well as in Central Asia and South Asia, particularly in the form of its subgroup J2- M172. Haplogroup J is also found in North Africa and the Horn of Africa, mainly in the form of their subgroup J1- M267. Subgroups J2a and J2a1b1 be found mostly in Greece, Anatolia and southern Italy.
