Haplogroup Q-M242

Haplogroup Q is a haplogroup in human genetics of the Y chromosome. Haplogroup Q is a subgroup of haplogroup P ( M45 ). It is believed that they originated between 15,000 and 20,000 years ago. This haplogroup contains the paternal ancestors of many Siberians, Central Asians and the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Y- chromosomes with the haplogroup Q are also scattered in small numbers in Eurasiengefunden. It is in spite of their low density in most populations outside of Siberia and America's very diverse. It have been tested and described in the modern population of these regions six subgroups.

The subgroups of Haplogroup Q with their distinctive mutation according to the 2008 ISOGG pedigree. Subgroup Q1a7 ( ss4 bp, rs41352448 ) is not listed in the 2008 pedigree ISOGG, but was found lately in Amerindian populations.
