I Disappear

April 19, 2000

I Disappear is a song by American heavy metal band Metallica and an exclusive soundtrack to the film Mission Impossible II with Tom Cruise in the lead role. It was the first time that the band recorded a song for a movie and also the last with bassist Jason Newsted Post, who left the band shortly afterwards.

Music Video

The video was shot in May 2000, led by Wayne Isham. It shows the band together on a hill in Monument Valley. The opening scenes of the film are also held there. They show how Cruise climbs the hill. Partial therefore can be seen from even short excerpts. The individual band members do, however, in the video a series of events. So Kirk Hammett must run away before a deeper flying plane in the desert. Jason Newsted has to push through an infinite amount of people. James Hetfield is pursued by car from a blast wave that destroys what her puts everything in its path and Lars Ulrich is forced out of the window of a skyscraper about to jump, since here a pressure wave through the building penetrates through. At the end you can see how the band of a sandstorm is spilled on the hill. Shortly after Tom Cruise arrives at the summit.

Live performance

The song was first presented at the MTV Movie Awards 2000 live. At the subsequent Summer Sanitarium Tour 2000, and the Madly in Anger with the World Tour, from 2003 to 2004, to the album St. Anger, the song was played regularly. More recently, the song was but rarely to be found in the setlists.
