Israel Militosyan

Israjel Militosjan (Armenian Իսրայել Միլիտոսյան; born August 17, 1968 in Gyumri, Armenia ) is a former Soviet- Armenian weightlifter.

Sporting career

Militosjans international career began in 1987. At the European Championships, he was able to prove with 335.0 kg second behind Mikhail Petrov in light weight to 67.5 kg. At the world championships in the same year presented the same performance for the third place behind Petrov and Andreas Behm.

In 1988, Militosjan to in his first Olympic Games in Seoul for the Soviet Union and was 337.5 kilograms second behind Joachim Kunz with 340.0 kg. In tearing Militosjan could set an Olympic record with 155.0 kg.

1989 won Militosjan at the European and World Championships in Athens. Both events were held in a competition. With a world record of 160.0 kg in the snatch and 187.5 kg in pushing, Militosjan could get away with 10 kg on the Bulgarians Joto Jotow, who scored 337.5 kg.

1990, 1991 and 1992 respectively Militosjan was European Vice Champion behind Jotow. Even in his last successful 1991 World Championships in Donaueschingen Jotow referred him to second place, but only because of the higher body weight, as both 345.0 kg achieved.

At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona Militosjan now stepped up to the United team. There he could finally Jotow beat again and won Olympic gold in the lightweight to 67.5 kg. He scored with 155.0 kg in the snatch and 182.5 kg in pushing 337.5 kg in the total.

1994 won Militosjan at the European Championships in Sokolov gold in the snatch in the new class up to 70 kg. After that, he still ( now Armenia ) joined the 1995 World Championships, at the 1996 Olympic Games, and even at the World Championships in 1999, but could not gain more top rankings.
