Joe Walsh (Irish politician)

Joseph "Joe" Walsh (Irish Seosamh Breathnach, born May 1, 1943 in Ballineen, County Cork) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

Walsh, who worked as a manager of a dairy, began his political career as a candidate of the Fianna Fáil in 1977 with the election of deputies of the lower house in which he the constituency of Cork South - West represented until his election defeat in 1981. Subsequently, he was from 1981 to 1982 member of the group culture and education in the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ), before he was re-elected in 1982 for the Members of the House and six re- elections again the constituency of Cork South - East represented until 2007.

After the election victory of Fianna Fáil, he was on 10 March 1987 by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Charles Haughey J. Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Industry appointed and assumed therefore as " junior ministers " his first government post. After that, he was on 19 July 1989 to 11 February 1992 Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Albert Reynolds, Haugheys successor as Prime Minister, then appointed him on 11 February 1992 to the Minister for Agriculture and Food as well as in a realignment of ministries on 13 January 1993 to the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry. This office he held until the end of Reynolds' term of office on 14 December 1994.

After re- election victory of Fianna Fáil, he was appointed on 26 June 1997 by Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, in turn, Minister for Agriculture and Food. After a further transformation of the responsibility he was on 27 September 1999 to June 6, 2002 Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and was last on 6 June 2002 re- Minister for Agriculture and Food. On 29 September 2004, he resigned from his ministerial office, and retired from the Government of Ahern.

2007 renounced Walsh was also made to another candidate for the House of Commons and thus different from the Dáil from 2007.
