Simon Coveney

Simon Coveney (Irish Ó Siomon Cómhanaigh, born June 16, 1972 in Cork) is an Irish politician and member of the Fine Gael.

Coveney visited the Royal Agriculture College in Gloucestershire, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. In addition, he attended Clongowes Wood College in County Kildare, University College Cork and Gurteen Agricultural College, County Tipperary.

Coveney was a member from 1999 to 2003 the Cork County Council and was a member of various committees in this function. In October 1998, he was first elected to the Dáil Éireann. The case held by-election became necessary to occupy the by the death of Coveney's father, the politician Hugh Coveney, has become vacant seat in Dáil Éireann new. In May 2002 and five years later (2007) Coveney was re-elected. The latter meant that he resigned his seat in the European Parliament. The European Parliament he had been a member since June 2004. His party colleague Colm Burke moved for him there.

Since March 9, 2011 Simon Coveney is an Irish Minister for Agriculture.
