Ivan Yates

Ivan Yates ( born October 1, 1959 in Enniscorthy, County Wexford ) is an Irish Fine Gael politician.

Biography

The farmer and businessman Ivan Yates began his political career as a candidate of the Fine Gael in 1981 with the first election to the House ( Dáil Éireann ). There he took after six subsequent re- elections until 2002, the constituency of Wexford. During this time, he was from 1990 to 1994 opposition spokesman for finance policy.

After the election victory of Fine Gael, he was appointed by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) John Bruton as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry on 15 December 1994 and held that office until the end of Brutos reign on 26 June 1997.
