Thomas Walsh (Irish politician)

Thomas Walsh (Irish Tomás Breathnach, * December 18, 1901; † July 14, 1956 ) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

Walsh, who was a farmer by profession, in 1943 a member of the Senate ( Seanad Eireann ) and represented there until 1944, the group of agriculture. In 1948 he was elected as the candidate of Fianna Fáil as a member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and represented there until his death on July 14, 1956, the interests of the constituency of Carlow - Kilkenny.

After the election victory of Fianna Fáil Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) Éamon de Valera appointed him on 13 June 1951 Minister for Agriculture. This office he held until the end of de Valera's term of office after the election defeat by the Fine Gael from 2 June 1954.
