John Stockton

John Houston Stockton ( born March 26, 1962 in Spokane, Washington ) is a former NBA basketball player who played in the position of point guard. 19 long seasons he was one of the most durable and reliable construction player and passer in NBA history.

Biography

After his four-year college at Gonzaga University of 1,85 meter John Stockton in 1984 his basketball career began in the NBA. He was selected on the recommendation of Jack Gardner of the Utah Jazz on 16 out of the Draft. Despite a good performance as a substitute ( 6.3 points and 3.4 assists per game ), he just missed out on a place in the All - NBA Rookie Team. In the season 1986/87 Stockton played for the first time in the " Starting Five " ( starting lineup ) and improved his average to 7.9 points and 8.2 assists. Although he and Karl Malone brought good performance, it was not enough for getting ahead in the play- offs.

Stockton should as passer and Karl Malone as a power forward but then over ten years of success playing together, which earned them the nickname floor alone. They were known for the textbook -like mastery of the pick and roll game turn. However, they failed in the crucial games still to teams that were better team performance occupied, in the NBA finals in 1997 and 1998 to the Chicago Bulls.
